Collaborative Research and Wayfaring of the Living Archive of Art Educator Mary Godfrey, Through Conversation and Care

I was honored to be a co-presenter with Ann Holt, PhD at the 2025 NAEA National Conference today. The topic, Collaborative Research and Wayfaring of the Living Archive of Art Educator Mary Godfrey, Through Conversation and Care, discussed how archival wayfaring helped to expand the body of knowledge that existed about Mary Godfrey’s life and career because there were gaps. .

I spoke in-depth about Mary and Ruth’s personal life stories and how a series of tragic events led them to living on their grandparents’ farm in Charlotte Court House, Virginia, its influence on their artwork, what the Sisters Godfrey Collection is, how I became involved, and how my work became part of broader research on art education through wayfaring.
